    Our story began with a father's deep concern for his daughter’s well-being. Gloria Engelhard was suffering from a severe case of whooping cough. Determined to find a remedy, Karl Engelhard collaborated with researchers and developed a special ivy extract, Unique Special-Ivy-Extract EA 575®. This innovative formula helped Gloria recover quickly, marking the beginning of Prospan® in 1950. Since then, we have evolved into a trusted worldwide brand.

Our Production Process

  • Step 1

    Cultivation and Procurement of Raw Materials

    The ivy plant requires specific conditions to thrive, shade, mild temperatures, and high humidity. That's why we use ivy that is grown in Germany or other European countries that have similar climates.

    The ivy is then processed at our location in Germany to produce our Special-Ivy-Extract EA 575® - every step in the manufacturing process is important to ensure the quality, composition, and benefits of Prospan®.

  • Step 2

    Extraction

    Our unique, proprietary extraction process was developed over years of research. The carefully selected dried ivy leaves are minced and a special solution is added to draw out the power of the plant, our unique Special-Ivy-Extract EA 575®.

    During this process, we follow the highest manufacturing standards, embodied by Prospan®, a quality product made in Germany.

  • Step 3

    Drying

    Our Ivy Extract EA-575® is now concentrated through evaporation: in a special drying unit, the extractant solution is atomized at high pressure and guided down the unit in a jet of hot air. The hot temperature and the fine droplet size ensure that the remaining liquid evaporates instantly, and the dry extract settles to the bottom of the unit.

    Only through this proprietary process is the exclusive Special-Ivy-Extract EA 575® produced, the effectiveness of which has been proven for over 70 years - exclusively in Prospan®.

  • Step 4

    Production and Bottling

    After our quality control team ensures that our Prospan® Cough Syrup meets our exacting standards, the final step is filling and packaging.

    Available at local pharmacies and online to help soothe patients' coughs and clear mucus as quickly and effectively as possible.
